Educator Open House

January 25th, 2020 8:30-10:30am 

Mix and mingle at a breakfast reception with fellow teachers! You'll be able to gather information to help you plan great experiences for your students.  Zoo staff and other local cultural organizations will be on hand to provide details about how you can enhance your school year with details on field trips, outreach programs, STEAM professional development workshops, and other educator resources.

Upcoming STEAM Curriculum Workshops

Whether you are a classroom teacher, home schooling parent, museum or park service educator, the Zoo’s Education Department curriculum workshops are geared to help you engage your students in environmental education

The following workshops are conducted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in cooperation with the Florida Museum of Natural History.

They will introduce the Wings Over Florida program and to provide educational materials and resources for partners to share with their own classes, programs and/or audience.

The goals of both workshops are to:

• Introduce the Wings Over Florida program

• Provide an overview of butterflies and their ecological importance

• Provide lessons for butterfly basics, identification and field practices adaptable to your specific audience

• Include a field component using best practices for environmental conservation and stewardship

• Provide additional resources for connecting your audience to nature in new and innovative ways

These are both no cost workshops, however registration is required.

Light refreshments will be provided.


Teacher Workshop – December 3, 4:00-6:30pm   FREE, Registration Required

This workshop is tailored for the needs of K-12 teachers and is intended to provide educational materials and resources for teachers to share with their classes.

This workshop is tailored for the needs of environmental education instructors and is intended to provide educational materials and resources for partners to share with their own classes, programs and/or audience. Please bring your own lunch, coolers will be provided.

Educator Discount on Zoo Membership

Educators can receive a 10% discount off a Zoo membership with valid School ID.  Proof of eligibility must be presented at the time of purchase at the Zoo Membership Office located at the Zoo's main entrance.  This discount is not available online.
