Behind the Scenes Tours

Go Behind-the-Scenes at the Zoo

General Information

Go “Behind-the-Scenes” at the Zoo with one of our expert zookeepers. This is an up-close and personal walking tour of some of your favorite animal exhibits at the zoo. You will visit their night dens; learn about their care and feeding, animal habits and more. Time is allowed for questions and answers with all tours.

Pricing and Scheduling

$25.00 per person includes the tour and park admission.
$20.00 per person for current Zoo members. 
Advance payment is required. We accept cash, company checks, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express credit cards.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours are pre-scheduled by the Corporate Events Coordinator at (904) 757-4463, ext. 120.  A minimum of two weeks is required for scheduling.

Exclusions

Behind the Scenes Tours are booked for a minimum of six people and a maximum of fifteen people per group. Tours are restricted to ages six years and older. No strollers, infants, or wheelchairs. All participants must wear closed toed shoes.

Tours

Sunday – Saturday:

Wild Florida Tour:  Features animals native to Florida, including Bobcats, N.A. River Otters, Whooping Cranes, Bald Eagles, Red Wolves, White Tailed Deer, Black Bears, and the Florida Panthers.

This tour can be scheduled between the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm, and last approximately 45 – 60 minutes.

African Plains Tour: Features the animals in the African Plains, including Elephants, Rhinos, Giraffes, Zebras, and Warthogs, Cheetah, Cape buffalo and more. Finish off your tour with a quick stop in South America for a close-up encounter with our Jaguars!

This tour can be scheduled between the hours of 12:00pm – 3:00pm and last approximately 60 minutes.

Limited Scheduling on the Following Tours:

The Range of the Jaguar & Emerald Forest Aviary: Features animals of the South and Central America. Take this tour and see where Jaguars, Tapirs, Howler Monkeys, Tropical Birds, Giant Otters and Fish live and play.

Available Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Commissary & Hospital Tour: Features the Animal Commissary and Food Kitchen in combination with the Animal Hospital.  You will be met by a Commissary staff member who will talk to you about the various animal diets and show you how and where the meals are prepared daily.

One of the Zoo’s Animal Health staff will provide a tour of the Zoo’s Animal Hospital, where medical procedures and treatments are performed on our animals.

Tours can be scheduled Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00am –2:30pm and will last 45 – 60 minutes.
